The Ultimate Guide To Skin Whitening

The scorching sun of Pakistan is not at all our friend. Specially if you are a university student and stay outdoors half of your day. The continuous exposure of the sun increases the production of melanin in the skin that causes our skin to darken and sometimes leave splotchy marks that are nowhere apealing. Sun tans can be an agony to get rid of but with a few home remedies, proper lifestyle and maybe a few products, one can surely get rid of the unwanted tan.

LIFESTYLE TIPS:

Cover up

Cover Up:

The most basic way to avoid direct sun exposure is to keep yourself covered. Wear full sleeved clothes of breathable materials like cotton or lawn and a hat to give you shelter while you are outside. Remember, Prevention is better than cure.

Drinking water

Stay Hydrated:

Keeping your skin hydrated will help rejuvenate it and cause it glow from the inside. Drink plenty of water and add fruits, rich in water to your diet. This will accelerate the tan fading process and give you a healthy flush of pink on your skin.

sun screen

Always Wear Sunscreen:

Regardless of what time of the year it is, do not skip the sunscreen. It will shield your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun and prevent it from tanning or getting burnt. It creates a barrier between harmful sun rays and our skin and prevents skin cancer. So, The next time you head outdoors, don’t forget to slather on some sunscreen. I love Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 45.

scrubbing skin

Scrub It off:

Ok, so you have tan. Now what? You can slough off the upper, damaged layer of your skin by using a gentle scrub. It will help you get rid of the tanned skin (to a small degree) and draw out the fresh new skin. I recommend using St. Ives Invigorating Apricot scrub once or twice a week in the shower. It can be used on face and all over the body too.
Note: Excessive scrubbing can cause skin irritation.

NATURAL BEAUTY TIPS:

lemon-for-skin

Lemon:

Lemon is rich in Vitamin C which is very beneficial for skin whitening. It is a natural bleaching agent that cuts down the tan and reveal fresh and fair skin. Dip a cotton ball in lemon juice and apply it all over the affected/ tanned area for about 10 to 15 minutes, then wash it with tap water or you can apply it directly from the bit of lemon. Make sure to not expose your skin to direct sunlight for at least 5 hours after treating your skin with lemon as it makes your skin photosensitive.

COSMETIC BEAUTY TIPS:

Pond's white beauty

Whitening Creams:

Pakistani markets are overflowing with skin whitening creams and lotions. These creams and lotions have special ingredients like lemon extracts, synthetic bleaching agents, soothing gels like Aloe Vera and so forth. All these ingredients helps, lift off the tan, making the complexion lighter. Then again, some creams can be truly harsh on your skin. Therefore, It is always recommended to buy reputed skin care products. I found Pond’s white beauty range to work best with me and my sister’s skin.

bleaching

Bleaching:

Chemical bleaches specially designed for the delicate skin our face and body are used to instantly lighten the skin color. However, it is not the safest way to whiten your skin. No matter what the formula is, I have constantly found it to be harsh for my skin at least. If you still choose to bleach your skin, then do not go out in the sun for 4 to 5 hours at least. Because using bleach always makes the skin sensitive to UV rays of the sun.

facial

Get Whitening Facials:

A lot of salons offer special whitening facials now a days. They are quite effective and relaxing. On the off chance that you need to save a trip to the parlor, then you can give yourself a whitening facial at home. It will save your time and cash as well.

I hope you find it beneficial. If you want me to do a guide on how to do a facial at home, then tell me in the comments down below. 🙂

  5. You gave some amazing tips and recommendations. Although like you mentioned chemical bleach is dangerous. All bleaching agents work via free radicals, which are basically cancer causing agents, so I don’t think any bleach should ever be used on the skin. Thye literally eat away and destroy healthy skin cells. Also, I am allergic to fruit acid in fruit juices especially lemon. My skin burns, truns red and then black. I would advise girls to use lemon mixed in water rather than just lemon jiuce because Pakistani lemon varieties are much more acidic than others. Loved reading this post. Keep it up 🙂 -Sadaf

    • I would advise against it. Water is amphoteric in nature. Means it can act both as an acid and base depending on the properties of the substance it is added to. Adding water to lemon juice will make it more acidic and thus your skin will sting more. Instead you can add lemon to milk and probably add turmeric as well, as they both have whitening properties. I used to apply it on my lips to reduce pigmentation and it worked pretty well on me. Another substitute will be to use rose water.

      • Hira water dilutes acids. It does not act as a base or acid here because there is no acid-base reaction going on here 😀 It will simply reduce the concentration of the citric acid in the lemon. The citric acid in the lemon will separate the protein solution and fats in milk causing it to curdle, which is what we do to make cheese. However, the concentration of acid determines when you can expect the milk to separate. Nothing will reduce the burning effect of the lemon’s citric acid other than water. Rose water, tumeric and milk are great options for masks and I have used them before 🙂
